What's new at GEN J? | PROMISE GRANTS The 2011-12 GEN J Promise Grants were made possible thanks to the generous support of Brenda & Samuel Gewurz and the Mendel family & friends. Children, Teens and Families The Green Kippah Project invites Jews of all ages to plant, share and enjoy homegrown produce from its rooftop garden. Hozek brings together Royal Vale students and families to celebrate Jewish holidays and cultural events. H.Y.P.E. engages high school students to create Jewish community-service opportunities, with ongoing mentorship from CEGEP and university students. T.O.P. Interns connects and engages West Island high school students in leadership training and social programming. Young Adults 100 Mile Meal Shabbat Dinners creates a group of volunteers to plan, prepare and serve weekly Shabbat dinners at the Ghetto Shul. Acharai educates, trains and inspires the next wave of young Jewish leadership in the West Island through intense study seminars and travel to Africa and Israel. Community Database Pilot Project Creation of a database that classifies young adults by interests and activities in order to provide them with opportunities in the Montreal Jewish Community. Cool Shul and Shabbat at the Y join forces to provide young adults with a variety of programs where participants can celebrate Shabbat together in a relaxed atmosphere. Jewish Cultural Nights brings together young adults to participate in holiday and social programs in the heart of Monkland Village. The Jewish Newlywed Network invites newly married and soon-to-be married couples to Jewish study groups that explore topics of love, relationships, parenting, etc. J Montreal connects single young adults with the help of traditional matchmakers.
Mile End Chavurah inspires a sustainable and diverse community committed to creating spaces for Jewish study, culture, prayer, celebration, and acts of social justice in the Mile End. Shalom to You Retreat brings together young adults to embrace Shabbat, yoga and nature for a weekend retreat in the Laurentians. For past Promise Grants, please click here. |
